A Run in my Shoes

I chose my 'Dog Story' for my first person narrative piece. I had fun with this writing assignment because it was from an object's point of view. I was able to get very creative with this piece without it having to be serious.

My human only thinks about himself. He never bothers to ask how I’m doing or if he is hurting me. I know I should respect him since he saved me from Sports Authority, but it is just so hard to when he doesn't even seem to care. He should care too; I am the best running shoe on the market.

Let me tell you about the first day with my human. He locked me in the trunk of his car, stuck in a box. I have never felt so claustrophobic before. Once we got to a stop, he carried me into a big brown house. He left me in his room for quite some time. Once he was ready, he put his feet in me. I have never felt so alive! We go out the door and down the street. He was gentle at first, jogging in a slow pace. But when we go onto the Iron Horse Trail, things go brutal. It felt as if we were moving at the speed of light. He threw me on top of sharp rocks, into the mud, even using me as a weapon against bugs.

We passed by so many lucky shoes. They seemed so loved and in good shape. They did not have to do much either. Their only worry was to enjoy the Ferris wheel ride their biking human was providing them with. I was worn out by the time we had gotten home that I slept like a baby.

Now let’s fast forward two months. I am still young and I should look pretty new, but my human has stopped my shine. Not only do I have stains all over and dents on my bottom but there are holes on my sides as well. My bright orange color has faded and the white Nike sign is a dirty tannish color. I have literally been through hell and back. I have also been disrespected by the person I care most about. I did not think our relationship would be this bad even after the first day. I should have seen this coming.

Now let’s fast forward two weeks. My luck has finally turned around. My human took me to the hospital. It was about time! I thought this day would ever come. My human left shortly after getting there but I stayed overnight. I wish he could have been by my side. I guess I understand that he had things to do.

I am assuming I was asleep during the operation because i woke up a whole new pair of shoes. It was unbelievable! I felt better than ever and could not wait to go home to my human. I was prepared for what he had in store for me. I learned that I was born this way to help others succeed and reach their goals. I have never before felt so important and useful. I am glad I am helping my human instead of any other human.
